Visiting Denver? Check Out These Great Restaurants

Visiting Denver? Check Out These Great Restaurants
By Douglas Hanna

If you're coming to Denver and not familiar with the downtown area, here's information on five great restaurants you might want to check out.

Elway's
So our Number 7 was a pretty good football player when he was with the Broncos, but surprise! He's also a pretty good restaurateur. The steaks at Elway's are first rate, the side dishes are excellent and the martinis like totally cold.

Elway's
2500 E. 1st Ave. (Cherry Creek Shopping Center)
303-399-5353

Table Six
Table Six just might be the hottest restaurant in Denver as of this writing. It's a relatively small neighborhood restaurant that's just a few minutes from the 16th St. Mall at 609 Corona. Its menu focuses on fresh, seasonal ingredients prepared in unusual ways. For example, you can get seafood sausage on white cabbage and broiled chicken, rabbit and Colorado lamb.

Table Six
609 Corona St.
303-831-8800

Aix
If you're in the mood for contemporary French cuisine, give Aix a try. It's menu mixes the tried and true with the newer, novelle dishes such as pomegranate risotto and mushroom-stuffed quail with cardamom lentils and orange gastrique. Aix also serves a variety of to-die-for game dishes.

Aix
719 E. 17th Ave.
303-831-1296

Restaurant Kevin Taylor
This is definitely one of Denver's most upscale and luxurious restaurants with a bumptious menu that ranges from bay scallop and squid ink ravioli to desert list that includes Hawaiian pineapple Charlotte. The wine list is 900 wines long.

Restaurant Kevin Taylor
1106 24th St.
303-820-2600

Vesta Dipping Grill
This very contemporary restaurant sports curvy walls and a curvy bar and sports a menu that serves up a few curves. It's basically a fondue restaurant where you order an entree and then choose three or more sauces from a long list of possibilities for your dipping pleasure. Featured entrees include ginger-seared Ahi tuna, pork tenderloin cubano, achiote-grilled Altantic salmon, madras coconut milk grilled venison and green chile masa gnocchi. If the idea of a customized meal fits you fancy, the Vesta Dipping Grill is your kind of place.

Vesta Dipping Grill
1822 Blake St.

Tips For A Successful Spring Break

Tips For A Successful Spring Break
By Kadence Buchanan

Spring break represents one of the most fun experiences that a young adult can have: a taste of independence, a chance to let it all hang out, and the act of getting away from all their responsibilities leads many teens to desire traveling to such spring break hotspots as Panama city, Cancun, and a host of other cities where teens can forget their academic woes. In this article, we'll discuss some common issues that teens on spring break may have and how to prevent them.

First off, it's important to keep a steady supply of sunscreen. Partying in the sun all day can wreak havoc on your skin and you don't want to walk around red as a lobster. A sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher is recommended to help protect your body from the sun's rays as you enjoy your trip to paradise. If you end up experiencing a bad sunburn, take ibuprofen or aspirin to help with the problem. It's also important to ensure that your body is getting enough water: all of the drinking, sunning, and dancing associated with spring break causes many people to overexert themselves without having enough water in their body. This can cause the party to end early, and no one wants that!

It may sound silly to mention, but WHATEVER YOU DO, don't jump from the balcony of your hotel into the pool below. While shows like Jackass have made the activity seem safe and fun, people die all the time from trying to partake in this stupid stunt. If your friend, or someone you know, is thinking about pulling the stunt, do whatever you can to stop them. Many cities cracked down on spring break partying due to deaths from people trying to make the leap of faith, and you don't want angry cops to be on your case while you are trying to live it up.

It's also important to make sure that whenever you go somewhere, you're with someone that you know. Spring break represents a great opportunity for thieves, conmen and other criminals to rip off nave drunk kids. Always make sure that you've got your friend in sight, and never wander off with a stranger without having someone with you. It's also important for females to watch their drinks while in bars, as date rape is a common practice among spring break criminals looking for an easy mark. When it comes to spring break sex, BE SURE to stay protected with condoms. You don't know who you may run into on spring break, and you could end up regretting a one night stand for the rest of your life if you're not careful.

You Can't Do It All What It Takes to Make a Successful Adventure Vacation

You Can't Do It All - What It Takes to Make a Successful Adventure Vacation
By Charles Brown

Sooner or later every traveler realizes that you cant do everything or see everything when you travel, but you can learn to pack as much adventure as possible into your vacation, without breaking your budget.

Lets say, for example, your vacation is in New York, London, Tokyo or some other city that offers more to see and do than you could possibly experience if you stayed an entire year. The key is to accept the limitations of a finite vacation stay without giving up all the adventure you have planned on.

  • Step one begins with realizing the minimum you must experience to come home satisfied with your trip. What must you see and do in order to make this a satisfying vacation? Is visiting the Statue of Liberty, going to the top of the Empire State Building or seeing a Broadway play essential to your trip? Then make sure you include those activities.

  • Step two is to prioritize your time and your money. How long will you be staying in London, for example? Then calculate how much money you have to spend and youre your stay accordingly. If you blow through your money by Tuesday on your trip to London, and going to a Friday concert at Albert Hall was one of your essentials, you have created a problem for yourself.

  • Finally, above all else, remember to have fun. Months from now, you will not measure how successful your travels were based on how many things you r did or saw, but upon how much fun you had.

    Successful Travel With Your Child

    Successful Travel With Your Child
    By Denise Chadwick

Deciding what to take on a journey with children can be quite daunting, as you never know what might happen. They may be ill or spill everything down them so mums have to think of every eventuality and cater for that need.

All journeys are different depending on how you are travelling. Aircraft often have some kind of in flight entertainment for their passengers such as videos and games and they provide food and drinks. It is really important to drink plenty of fluid when flying to prevent dehydration. If travelling by car, try to have regular breaks in safe areas where children can run around and play for a little while. Coach journeys can be the most tedious because children cant get up and walk around and sometimes there is a long gap between stops. Overnight coach journeys are best for children so that they can sleep for most of the time. When travelling by train it is best for children who suffer from travel sickness to face the way they are travelling. Ferries can get very cold so make sure you have enough warm clothing for everyone.

The following is a list of things you might need on a long journey.

    1. Children should wear cool, comfortable clothing with no tight waistbands or high collars. A couple of thin layers are better than one thick jumper so that you can regulate the childs temperature better

    2. Socks should not be too tight as feet and toes need plenty of room to wriggle. If possible, allow children to travel without shoes but if necessary put on comfy, preferably breathable shoes which wont make their feet hot and sticky.

    3. Extra clothing will be needed for long journeys. Children might spill food and drink or, depending on their age, they might wet or even soil if it is a long time between stops or if they are feeling ill. Coats or jackets will be needed for any stops, especially in the cold night air.

    4. Hand and face wipes are very useful to clean children after eating and to wipe them down if they are sick.

    5. A small plastic bowl with a supply of plastic bags to put inside it in case of sickness should be kept handy for emergencies. Children are more likely to hit the target if they are holding a bowl rather than just a bag. The bag can then be lifted out and disposed of. Plastic bag ties could be very useful for this.

    6. A cushion or pillow and a thin blanket will help children to snuggle down to sleep comfortably on long journeys.

    7. Provide lots of drinks on journeys to prevent dehydration. These are better in small amounts sipped and not gulped. Avoid sweet, milky or fizzy drinks.

    8. Provide healthy snacks which are easily digested such as ripe bananas and apples. Plain biscuits can be given. If you stop for meals these should be light and not greasy or spicy.

    9. Keep any medicines which your child might need in a safe but convenient place.

    10. Looking down at toys or games could cause motion sickness. It is better for children to shut their eyes and listen to some music or a story tape.

Have a happy and a safe journey.

Ontario Cottage Rental Make the Right Choice for a Successful Vacation

Ontario Cottage Rental - Make the Right Choice for a Successful Vacation
    By Heather Bayer

Are you thinking of renting a cottage for your vacation this summer? If so, you probably dream of fun and games on the water, lazing on the dock with that book youve been dying to read, balmy evenings spent barbecuing and watching a knockout sunset, and roasting marshmallows on the campfire. Then waking to the sound of loons calling before another day in paradise. These practical tips will help to make sure your dream becomes a reality and not a potential nightmare, so do your homework and have a great time this summer.

Dont leave it to the last minute 2006 was the year of the last minute booking, with a huge scramble for remaining cottages in July and August, however, this year the rental agencies are reporting a brisk business in enquiries and early bookings. If you have specific needs, for example, a cottage that sleeps more than 8 people, a sandy beach, or have to have queen beds in more than one room, you should make your reservation now.

Decide what is important to you and what you could live without Have a family conference, decide which area you want to visit, how far you are willing to travel, how much you want to pay, how remote you want to be, what facilities you must have, and which are not as important. Make a list of these in order of their importance to you remember, you may have to sacrifice some of your wants, the later you leave your booking. If you have small children, a sandy beach with shallow waterfront for wading may be number one on your list as could be a washer and dryer; if you really want to get back to nature, privacy and adequate distance from neighbors might be your priority. Get these wishes clear and the less likely you are to be disappointed.

Be selective about your waterfront A vacation can be spoilt if the children cant swim because the volume of boat traffic and wake affects their safety. As lakes become busier, boats get bigger and schools of teens on seadoos are the norm, it can be very annoying if all you want to do is relax and enjoy some tranquility.

Make a list of questions to ask Dont take it for granted that the facilities listed on a website are accurate, so if something is very important to you and your family, check it will be available to you.

Keep a record of your cottage search There are so many websites and so many cottages for rent that it is easy to forget where you saw that lovely one with the great sandy beach, and hot tub!

Payment protection If you use an agency, ask if it is registered with TICO (Travel Industry Council of Ontario). Not only does this give protection for your money if the agency goes out of business, but it demonstrates that the company you are using is a member of a professional register and conducts its operations in accordance with provincial regulations. If you rent your cottage from a private individual, the transaction is based on trust so make sure they have a good rental agreement that lays out the obligations of both parties. Expect to pay a deposit of up to 50% of the total cost with the balance paid anywhere from 45 days before the vacation takes place onwards.

Cancellation policy An agency will have its policy on cancellation clearly available on its website or in the documentation you receive on booking. For private bookings, make sure you know what the owners policy is. Taking out a simple travel insurance policy will cover cancellation on medical and emergency grounds; some of these even offer a change of mind clause that will cover your deposit if you decide not to complete the reservation.

Make your payments on time The high season weeks of July and August book up quickly and both owners and agencies are inundated with enquiries from January onwards. So, dont expect either to honour a telephone or email booking if you havent sent your deposit. If you cant use a credit card, then send a cheque by Express Post.

Enjoy planning your vacation - it's a great part of the experience!

6 Key Factors Successful Vacation Rental Owners Always Use

6 Key Factors Successful Vacation Rental Owners Always Use
    By Kent Krueger

If you are going to spend money advertising your vacation rental property on vacation rental websites, you want to make sure it is a success. Here are 6 things you can practice which will help ensure you receive the most ang for the buck.

    1. SET RENTAL RATES APPROPRIATELY - If you want your vacation property to rent, you must be realistic, optimistic, but not greedy! Set realistic rental rates for your property and ensure that the rates are correct on the site(s) your listing and regularly reviewed as the market changes. Search for comparable properties (comps) in the same location as yours. Only charge a premium if your property has some distinct features. And, be willing to discount your property on occasion as needed. In this business, if you lose money for a week long rental, you can't make that up!
    2. CHECK E-MAIL REGULARLY - When using an internet vacation rental property website such as Rentals2Remember or eVaca, remember your users. They are typically Internet savvy and probably check their e-mails frequently...especially if they have requested some info. Also, be sure your phone number is listed on sites that allow you to as sometimes people choose to just call you directly, so be sure to check phone messages.
    3. RESPOND IMMEDIATELY - Vacation goers usually see a few properties that are of interest to them and then contact those owners. The faster you respond, the better chance (most of the time) you have of winning them over. There have been times I have rented properties in the past and because it took an owner 24 hours to respond, I had already chosen another property. A timely and efficient response gives the renter confidence that the rental experience will follow suit.
    4. YOUR LISTING SHOULD BE ACCURATE AND COMPLETE - Be sure that your listing details are kept up to date and are complete. Review your online listing frequently to be sure that your contact information are up-to-date. Also, be sure that it is accurate on the description of your property and its amenities. This will help you with repeat customers, but will also keep you out of trouble with rental contracts or laws in regards to such things.
    5. GREAT PHOTOS - It is true what they say, a picture speaks a thousand words. Remember, renters are considering staying at your rental based (most of the time) solely on your pictures and your word. The more pictures to help them be comfortable with the decision, the better. Here is how I look at it. If you were going to buy a used car, would you do so over the Internet without a good look at the outside/inside of the vehicle, the engine, etc. Not exactly the same, but you get the picture. The more pictures and the prettier, the better. Be sure to have pictures of your rental amenities such as a pool, the beach, a mountain view, the lake or a golf course - these are top vacation rental sellers!
    6. BOOST YOUR EXPOSURE - There are many hot spots for vacationers throughout the world. Before we owned property, my family used to head to Destin every year, usually twice. There are thousands of vacation rental properties in the Destin, Panama City Beach area. In areas like this, boost your exposure by getting to the top of your sites search engine. If it costs you $20, $50, even $100 to do so but that gets you one extra rental a year, that makes it more than worth it.
